An Honest Look Back at MCU Phase 4...
I bet the villain song makes a lot more sense in the show version of Moana 2
I fully understand quite a few things you said and agree that the songs are not as good as the first movie. I only disagree with some of the stuff you said about the song beyond. It is different this time as Moana has more to lose and this probably doesn’t sit with most people but as an older sister the first time I watched this movie I cried because I understood where she was coming from and it heavily reminded me about why leaving for college was so hard and I didn’t even have to worry about dying or my siblings not understanding as they are older than he younger sister is in the movie
Tamatoa always made no sense to me. I guess he's fun, but he's also basically pointless. Why give so much weight to what's little more than a joke character?
The baby sister add drama, they did a good job I thought demonstrating the sisterly bond and the fact time had passed, not just literally but significantly shifted. Moana is more responsible now; in Moana 1 she is itching to leave, it’s her destiny. In Moana. 2, she is called and she has to make a sacrifice. It’s still her destiny but she’s torn, the stakes are higher. It evokes a mature and more emotional tug which gives the whole more intensity and depth. It also better highlights Moana as a leader, she’s not selfishly exploring her own desires based on curiosity; she’s going where she needs to despite any personal sacrifice. The sisterly storyline is very important in that sense
I know not the video topic, but gawd Frozen 2 makes me so upset
There is no excuse for a company like disney to make a mediocre movie. What? You couldn't find any writers?
I liked Moana 2 a lot, they did a good job of escalating the story. It felt like bigger stakes than the first and it felt necessary and intriguing. The songs were a let down and were not as good as Moana 1
I didnt even want to watch Moana 2 just because it was supposed to be a tv series originally. Disney doesnt have the best track record for this. (Atlantis 2 which was trash). What made me really not interested is Lin Manuel not doing the music
25:08 why she sound like Miu Iruma here ☠️
Was a nice insight. Just frustrated it took at least 30 adds to get through.
One of these days I hope Disney just goes all in and makes an opera
30.37 HADES TOWN!!!
I heard that Baldoni’s cut fixes all of these issues.
Listened to you’re welcome so much that Dwayne Johnson ended up in my Spotify top artists of the year :p
I found this movie... fine. Mostly middling, occasionally great, occasionally bad I also felt it had too much empty padding in that long runtime. And YES the shot and editing choices in dance numbers were so so bad - dizzying, hard to follow, weird focus points, and completely failing to showcase ensemble coherence. I had no problem with Ariana's performance tho. 💁🏻♂️ Oh also Yeoh and Goldblum sucked at singing. I was excited by the cameos at first but the shine wore off as soon as they sang. How dare this movie make Yeoh look bad. The disrespect!
i feel like the plot could have easily gone from lands unknown to people unknown. like one culture could have different ways of celebrating said culture and over time the groups will start diversifying but still understanding key values. it could easily be a story abt how one culture isnt always a monolith. moana could fear that they might have language barriers or their culture could have shifted drastically, have that fear turn to reality and learn to accept it
The way I'd describe the movie, it's better then I would think. That's all. Just better then I'd think. Arianna Grande wasn't god awful, the script wasn't god awful, the sets were good. I think I'm just glad this wasn't another Mean Girls movie musical. It's not a movie I want to watch all the time, but it's a movie I'd watch if someone else put it on. Though Arianna and Cynthia don't sit right with me. The songs don't either. (Except dancing through life, he did amazing.) So, it's not a disaster but so so *so* overhyped.
I remember cringing my head off when I saw the little sister. She was so annoying and served absolutely ZERO purpose other than yelling “BIG SISSSSSSSS” and I hated it
i lowk think yall haters its really not THAT bad
I want to make a video like this, but I don't know how copyright infringement really works. How did you do this without getting copyrighted? Is it because you didn't just post the full songs and added your review and speaking?
Have you listened to EPIC: the musical? It’s amazing and basically hits every note you bring up
I am so dearly in love with having characters declare their name as a show of confidence, and "I am Moana" is my favorite instance of this by far. Indeed it appears that perfection is real.
Just realized he does the same thing for Hamilton
In a good way, your shirt is telling me your about to say, "Scotty, beam us up"
As someone who wasn't trained and doesn't have much knowledge about the production/technical side of musicals and film, I would love to see just a commentary of Heathers and Hamilton and why certain songs, beats, notes, and directing calls work. I also really like how you set up your videos and how you explain your points. If it isn't clear, I am wondering if you'd be willing to make such a video? Unless it'd breach too much copyright... which would suck I'm so curious and my searches haven't quite led me down the right pipeline </3 (if anyone who read my comment knows such channels or articles, I love getting into the behind the scenes intentions vs execution of technical choices from professionals)
For sure gonna do one on hamklton eventually
Oh NOW you miss Lin. Interesting
Who are you talking to? I've considered Lin one if the greats since 2015
"Much of the world's wealth is built by taking advantage of other people's hard work." Well, if there's one person who'd know that, it's the director of The Last Jedi.
Its not that deep. He made a movie you didn't like that some people do. Stop trying to attribute malice to him just because the producers didn't make an outline for the trilogy
a list of things i'm lOVING about this video 1. coining the term 'The Abeula Special' because yeah. yup. correct. 2. pointing out the lack of rhyme with the word 'chain' in 'We Know The Way' being symbolic of *continuing* the tradition of storytelling. holy shit my mind is BLOWN. i know Lin Miranda is *a genius* or whatever but holy shit. he really IS a genius. 3. clip of Shere Khan right after a clip of Patrick Page which has me thinking that maybe i want to hear Patrick Page voice some version of Shere Khan or something idk let's make it happen? 4. the clip of Idina Menzel screaming tho. 5. you disappearing. 6. JK Simmons.
Wait when did i disappear

44 year old film buff here, have seen literally thousands of movies in my lifetime, and i believe Blade Runner is the best film of all time, There Will Be Blood is number two. Iron Claw is one of the best movies i've ever seen. I have 2 brothers.
Honestly you were very generous with some of the ratings for moana 2
Ik I'm a bit late to the party, but "Beyond" sounds EXACTLY like "Legends Never Die" from League of Legends. Literally made the whole song unlistenable for me
thank you for explaining a toxic relationship so incredibly well! i never expected to find an explaination here, but i finally did! thank you, now i know what to look out for & work on!!!!!! i genuinely cannot thank you enough!
I'm really glad this video could be of some value to you
I know a nit pick but the language used in we know the way it Tokelauan. I think this is an important distinction because Tokelau is going to be among the first islands in the pacific to disappear from rising sea levels. I went to school with many Tokelauans who were so proud their language was used because it is also considered to be a dyeing language.
Honestly. I was not surprised when the sequel was infact a soulless disappointment
When I saw ads for Moana 2 the first time I honestly didn't realize the little girl was her sister and I thought we were getting another princess mom that would battle with duty and the urg for childhood freedom. Something that would relate Moana to what her dad was trying to teach her.
I'm convinced that the moana 2 ratings were out of 10 and not 5
32:59 “aaahhhhhhhh”
California and Texas joining forces against a bigger common threat is not that big of a stretch. Every year thousands of Californians move to Texas and vice versa. They both aren't fond of the federal government. They both have spoken about seceding. Both states are heavily armed. They are the 2 biggest states by population and there's an "enemy of my enemy is my friend" component.
I was skeptical about Moana 2 after I watched it in theaters with my daughter. Moana has a great soundtrack but the storyline to me is meh. I look forward to the musical numbers. Moana 2 has an amazing storyline and we dive more into her tribal roots, we learn more about her ancestors and we see the ancestors come through for her. The soundtrack may be meh - I agree I only look forward to three songs on the track… but Moana 2 is still an amazing movie with a great storyline.
Didn't the actress compare this movie to murdering your own child
There is not one Marvel character that has been personified corectly. They are all watered down versions of the comic books. They suck.
This video made me go back and watch some of the old Moana songs. What shocks me after seeing Wish and some of the live action is all the unspoken storytelling happening. Like Opetaia Foa'i, the lyrics say the ancestors pass down their traditions in a chain...but we also see the new Chief enter the frame in the final shot just like the old Chief's boat did! Also people making fun of Lin Manuel's "brother rhymes with brother" in Lion King need to listen to How Far I'll Go again...on this island, on this island...everything is by design!
5:39 THIS IS SO REAL LMAOOOO 😭😭😭
Moana 2 was such a let down… the entire story was just “moana struggles, then finds her strength through friendship” then repeat and it was just so boring. Yet, the first one is so great
there was a season 3?
Petition to make this a meme: 39:02
I’m sorry, but I don’t care how many flaws it has, I’m just glad to get a blast from the past on seeing Moana again. No matter how bad the movie may be.
Beyond sounds like legends never die omg when I heard it in theatres I started singing it
I have not watched this movie, but from your criticisms of the songs, it seems like the writers (for the songs and story) came up with a pretty decent plot about Moana becoming like her father in that she’s a little overprotective of her people (and especially her crew), but then someone higher up told them that Moana was “too unlikable” and made them rewrite a bunch of stuff without considering the impacts on the greater narrative. It’s also possible that when they went from show to movie, they had to/were made to cut out a bunch of stuff that would’ve made the songs that go against her established character make more sense.
Moana 2's plot: "Let's pretend Moana never went on a transformative journey of growth and self discovery in the first movie where she returned and taught her tribe how to sail on the ocean." The writers took away the boon Moana earned and returned with. Even the tribe should have transformed.
