Can Timothée Chalamet in Wonka really compare to Gene Wilder's version of Willy Wonka? Does the musical aspect of Wonka capture the magic of one of cinema's most beloved characters? Or does it leave things on a sour note. And is it ok for movies to just be ok???
Delve with me into the Wonka-verse as we explore these questions .

I love Mean Girls (2004) and Mean Girls: The Musical. So imagine my disappointment when Mean Girls (2024) the film adaptation of The Broadway version of Mean Girls turned out to be... well... a mistake. Remakes are rarely good, and movie musicals are always a tricky thing to pull off, so let's dive into why the Mean Girls remakes was a bad movie and even worse musical. And let's talk about the ...

How the Last 7 Minutes RUIN Saltburn

Does the ending of Saltburn improve or ruin the movie? Well, it undeniably changes the film. Emerald Fennel's latest feature film is as divisive as it is shocking. And while I can't stop thinking about Saltburn's last 7 minutes, that's not necessarily a good thing. Sometimes, the ending of a film can recontextualize everything in a bad way. So let's examine the overall story, as well as a few k...

I was hoping to see at least one comment referencing Snowpiercer or the fan theory, but all I got was one Dune reference. Just imagine, though: a crossover between Willy Wonka, Dune, Snowpiercer and Infinity Train. _A young Wonka got mysteriously sent into a weird world, finds out it's within a massive and very long train that's continuously traveling in the middle of a desert. He somehow misses the point of the train and why he's in there, journeys through many cars and meeting fellow passengers along, and eventually reaches the engine which is unoccupied. The whole journey made him into a madman. He declares himself the Chosen One, The Messiah - "Muad'dib" as the more veteran passengers prophesized, and he now rules the entire train; he has the most numbers on him out of all the passengers of the train._

My view on Thor in Endgame is that its a good idea, very poorly executed. There’s nothing wrong with the idea of Thor spiralling with depression the way he does, but the movie consistently treats Thor and his state as a joke intil he meets with his mother again. That left a really bad taste in my mouth and is why i find it difficukt to return to Endgame.

You really nailed this analysis. When watching this movie myself, I found it a fine enough movie to be enjoyable, but whenever they tried to make it...wonka-esk, it ended up just taking me out of the emersion somehow, and i couldnt really figure out why it felt that way. It felt like they were trying to shoehorn the wonka aspect of wonka in so much that it felt so out of place and looped right back around to being why it DIDNT feel like a movie made to be a wonka movie. It felt like a movie wearing wonkas clothing rather than a movie about wonka. Every wonka action felt like it either hit as funny, quirky or so jarringly "look how funny and quirky willy wonka is!" that it makes the movie feel like its trying too hard. That and this disjointedness of the story that i would look past in most musicals but feels confusing why they included them in a wonka movie when it doesnt really enhance the movie, it just sort of...happens. I feel like if it was trying to be a purely original story, there would be more focus on making the story have a proper theme and have their story decisions enhance the plot. It was a fine movie, enjoyable enough to watch, but it would have been better if it wasnt a wonka movie. Though....I doubt they'd make nearly as much money if that was the case, so it was probably never meant to be.

Honestly I'd just recommend the broadway musical version if someone wanted a musical charlie and the chocolate factory story other then the original as the songs form that one are pretty enjoyable and the show overall is decently fun while still trying to keep characters in line with how they would act. also i am just so glad that charlies mum gets a way better song then Cheer up Charlie in the stage show.

  • @Rampala
    @Rampala 2 дні тому

If "Wonka" had advertised itself as fanfic or inspired by the character, I actually would've enjoyed it. But as a prequel to Gene Wilder's Wonka? It fails in every single way. Every attempted nod to the IP was awful. The original stuff? Not bad. It was odd.

  • @mollymcdade4031

My interpretation of Wonka is that he is a good, eccentric man who was driven into isolation by others’ greed (especially the corporate espionage of people stealing his ideas) - the darkness in Gene Wilder’s Wonka is because of decades of isolation and paranoia around other people, and in a way finding Charlie is him opening back up to the world - while testing people’s intentions to ensure his factory is safe. His eccentricities are genuine, but it’s also a mask he uses to protect himself and his factory.

The ending was very 'teenage', everything had to be spelled out in an obvious way, as to explain something to a child and make sure they 100 % understand. That said, it was an enjoyable movie, it maybe dropped it from a 9 to a 8 or a 7.5, i mean what ever its entertainment, but yeah it was a bit offensive knowing the director didn't think we would understand and have to spell it all out. Still enjoyed, liked the darkness the grossness, the overall vibe of the film.

Honestly, this movie should have been magnifico being the king that saves his people from asha's mad ideology and save the kingdom from the uprising, and guess what, in a long time, we could have gotten and male main character againts an evil (mad) girl, or hell, he could have showed her why her's idea is soo wrong showing, not everything is black and white (like, the young girls not always on the right whatever they think and need a supervisor to show them the right way) for the audience, this movie had so much potential, yet wasted sooo much

19:57 Actually, Slugworth _is_ a real person in the Willy Wonka universe and is _not_ Willy Wonka’s ally. Yes, he does exist alongside Fickelgruber and Prodnose. They had sent in spies to steal the recipes for Wonka’s candies in the adaptations that came before. The “Slugworth” you’re referring to in the 1961 movie was an actor hired by Wonka to put the winning kids up to the test to see if one of them would be rightful owner of Wonka’s chocolate factory.

I've never seen a video miss the point harder in my entire life. 9:19 "Its unclear if he gets revenge on Fuches", he didn't want to get revenge on Fuches, they forgave one another after fuches saved his son, I don't understand how that could be more clear. Barry ended his story being remembered as a tragic hero by all and burried with honors having a biopic made about him that literally erased all his bad deeds, I have no idea how you somehow twisted this into "barry didn't get what he wanted." He got a more glamorous ending than walter white.

"The filmmakers are so scared that high school kids might consider musical theater cringe, that they tried to strip away everything that made Mean Girls: The Musical work." This is exactly right! I saw the movie in the theater. My husband and I (late 30’s) were basically the only adults in the room, the rest were teenagers. They ALL audibly groaned every time a song started. I think that if the filmmakers didn’t try to appeal to the kids, the actual kids might come around and start liking the songs as the movie went on.

I'm genuinely curious if high schoolers have eliminated fatphobia to the extent that Renee Rapp would be believably considered the hottest girl in school, because that was very much not my experience of high school and I feel like in general societal views of fat haven't changed all that much. If so, that's really awesome, but despite Renee Rapp being objectively very hot, in my experience of high school she would definitely be too large to be one of the most popular girls. Either way, how the hell did they keep that kalteen bar plot line??? It literally makes no sense and is way more offensive and harmful than other problematic things they removed ...

Huh. When I watched the first part of Dune, I knew it wasn't the whole movie, so to speak. I knew he hoped to make a second part so he could finish his story. Maybe it was made clearer to people like us Swedes, who got the movie a bit later than Americans (as usual). Hence, we were forewarned. Still, if I had one complaint with the first part, it was that the Atreides family didn't feel like a true family to me. Lynch (who made the 1984 version) actually made the family feel more real, for some reason, than Villeneuve did. At least in my opinion. But maybe I was a bit distracted by the oh so very loud movie. During the second part, I used earplugs, which made it much more enjoyable to listen to. Never missed a sound. Imagine that.

Then Caren has a slim face matching Reginas but Gretchens face is also puffy matching Katies who is also the only other underdog female in the group. Idk maybe.....but Katie was really cliché to watch.
